About the Kansas City Chiefs
Having achieved four Super Bowl victories, the Kansas City Chiefs are well-acquainted with packed stadiums resonating with cheers from fans nationwide. In fact, they hold the world record for the loudest crowd noise at 142.2 decibels. Based in Kansas City, Missouri, the Chiefs (originally known as the Dallas Texans) were founded by Lamar Hunt in 1959 before relocating and joining the National Football League in 1970. Beyond football, the team actively engages in community initiatives focusing on health, families in need, and more.
Since working with the Chiefs, Leap Marketing and Analytics plays a crucial role in enhancing the Chiefs' customer relationships and assisting with their digital marketing efforts. To dig a little deeper, we connected with the Chief's very own Sam Gehling, Director of Business Development and Claire Early, Director of Performance Marketing. Let's explore how Leap supports the Kansas City Chiefs!
Perfecting the Playbook, Streamlining the Kansas City Chiefs’ CRM System
Leap Marketing and Analytics has revolutionized the Chiefs’ CRM processes through centralizing all their data and ensuring each department sees only the data relevant to its tasks. From partnerships to outreach and fan development, each department benefits from customized apps that meet their unique needs. “Leap is the lifeblood behind our CRM in the sense that they’re the professionals in that space,” Gehling said, “[and] somebody who knows the system from start to finish.” We built automations that streamline data entry, making information easily accessible and reducing the need for numerous spreadsheets. For instance, these filtered views in a centralized CRM platform allow their sales team to better focus on lead opportunities, the fan development team to easily track youth registrations, and the outreach department to manage inventory for their different events. By automating data gathering and entry, we’ve eliminated duplicates in their data and increased their overall efficiency. Thanks to these robust CRM enhancements provided by the Leap Marketing and Analytics team, the Kansas City Chiefs can now cultivate deeper fan relationships and better understand the impact of their outreach investments.
If the Chiefs are looking to do something new within the CRM space they know they can rely on Leap. Affirming this, Gehling stated, “If we feel like we’re making a large decision.. you check with Leap, you check with the true pros of that space and they know what’s best for us.”
Executing the Chiefs’ Digital Ad Game Plan
Working with The Kansas City Chiefs for over eight years now, Leap Marketing and Analytics has become a key player in getting their digital advertising efforts off the ground across multiple platforms, including Meta and Google Ads. “Leap Marketing and Analytics helped us set up every ad manager account that we still have today,” Early noted. The Chiefs rely on us to handle the heavy lifting of their ad management so they can invest their time elsewhere. We manage a significant volume of ads for them, executing roughly 65 campaigns and counting so far in 2024. “We are a team of two that does all of our paid social efforts. …There’s probably no way we’d be able to do even an eighth of the amount of the ads we run.” Early added, “Leap has been a very instrumental part in that. And I don’t think we would be where we are today without them.” The Chiefs provide the creative assets and a clear campaign vision, then Leap turns it into a reality. Early emphasized, “The return on ad spend that we saw at the beginning was crazy.”
Whether it’s raising awareness for their brand partnerships or driving ticket sales for home games, we ensure the ad messaging is impactful across various platforms like Choozle, X, and Meta. Additionally, our team leverages its extensive expertise in the sports industry to maximize their ticket sales and offer recommendations to optimize the performance of these campaigns. From single-game tickets to season passes, our campaigns are designed to reach the right audience, building impressions and driving sales, all while enhancing the value of The Kansas City Chiefs partnerships.
Handling the Heavy Lifting While the Chiefs Run the Plays
The Chiefs have found tremendous value in Leap’s ability to handle larger, more complex projects, which has significantly improved their efficiency. Previously, quick turnaround projects, like creating opportunities or managing phone call activities, required external assistance and time-consuming back-and-forths. Now, with the training and support provided by Leap, they can manage smaller projects in-house. “We’re able to do that kind of stuff in house now… Leap has helped train us with that. And now we can rely on Leap to do more meaningful tasks that take a lot of time,” Gehling commented.
For example, Leap recently took charge of a massive season ticket renewal campaign that involved everything from data processing and phone call automation to creating detailed reporting dashboards. Gehling mentioned, “We’re literally able to send a spreadsheet, step back…and it’s ready to go and uploaded for us. If we were to do that in house it would take several of us months to do that.” This freed up their team to focus on immediate needs like playoff preparations. By entrusting Leap with these large-scale tasks, the Chiefs can maintain momentum on their day-to-day activities while ensuring that critical campaigns are managed with precision.
